Fresh out of high school, Caleb Minton and Thomas Kellam joined our Elkin Quarry team as summer interns.  The recent graduates from Elkin High School, one of our partner schools, were also recipients of the Blue and Gold Scholarship which seeks to help students pursue careers in skilled trades in the community. In the fall, Minton and Kellam will start classes at Surry Community College where Minton will study machining and Kellam studying to become an electrician. Our partnership was featured in the Elkin Tribune.

Scholarship awardees spend summer at the quarry:
“Even though they are fresh out of high school, it isn’t exactly a longshot that Caleb Minton or Thomas Kellam will be vice presidents or even chief operating officer at the Vulcan Quarry in Elkin someday. Sure, they’re interns right now. But Vulcan Materials Co.’s vice president of operations and the company’s CEO both started out as interns.” By Elkin Tribune’s By Lisa Michals.
